Named in honor of the influential writer and civil rights leader, the James Baldwin Scholarship was an annual short story competition, established and judged by members of the Writers Guild of America. The scholarship aimed to inspire emerging writers worldwide to creatively explore themes central to Baldwin’s legacy: race, gender, sexuality, and social justice. 

The scholarship was discontinued this year due to a lack of funding funding, its impact endures through the voices it uplifted and the stories it inspired.
